A pool with a functioning heater is a huge asset to homeowners across Atlanta and can be a valuable investment, bringing additional equity to your home. We have the knowledge and expertise to offer the perfect solution for you and your pool's needs.
There are many factors to consider when adding a heater to your pool: The size of your pool, how you use your pool, and- most importantly- how available is your preferred energy source for your heater. Most homes in the Atlanta Metro utilize Natural Gas as their primary heating source, but that doesn't always mean that that is your only option- or even a sensible option- for your pool heating needs. If you don't already have a properly sized gas line running from your Natural Gas meter to your pool's equipment area, and if your gas meter isn't already a sufficient size to handle the addition of a Gas pool heater, then you may be looking into thousands of dollars worth of additional plumbing or gas work to even facilitate a new Gas pool heater in the first place.
Electric Heat Pumps have no such setbacks, only requiring a 50amp electrical source to facilitate the unit. And even if 50amp power isn't readily available, the electrical work required is often substantially more affordable and less intrusive than the gas and plumbing work needed for a gas pool heater. Heat My Pool! Atlanta offers our customers a complete and thorough evaluation of your pool, gas, and electrical equipment. With an in-depth consultation to go over the best heating options for you and your pool's needs, as well as giving detailed information for what is necessary to facilitate your new pool heater!
Natural Gas pool heaters are the most common pool heaters used in the Atlanta Metro area. And you guessed it- they use natural gas! Gas pool heaters excel at heating your pool or spa quickly, and at a moment's notice, with heat ratings as high as 250,000 to 400,000 BTUs. Gas pool heaters are small, compact, incredibly capable, and can heat an entire pool within 24 hours or less. Most spas can reach 100+ degrees Fahrenheit within an hour- depending on starting temperatures. All Gas pool heaters that are manufactured today and installed by Heat My Pool! Atlanta have AUFE ratings between 80-90%, have Low NOx exhausts, and are completely weather and pest-resistant. However, a Gas pool heater is one of the most expensive heaters to run when compared to Electric Heat Pumps. Per unit of energy, Natural Gas pool heaters are 2.5x more expensive to run on average than the electric alternative.
So why doesn't everyone have a Heat Pump for their pool instead? Simply put, it's a mixture of physical and technological limitations- and because not many people know about them. Electric Heat Pumps are large, heavy, and cost roughly 50-75% more than Gas pool heaters for the unit itself. But when in the right conditions and used properly, Electric Heat Pumps are THE most efficient pool heater per BTU, and you may be surprised at how affordable it is to heat your pool through the Spring, Summer, and Fall with one. But that level of efficiency doesn't come without some caveats.
Electric Heat Pumps use a compressor, evaporator, and refrigerant to extract heat from the ambient air around the unit- think of a conventional HVAC unit that works in reverse, but for your pool! While this process can use incredibly small amounts of energy to produce heat, it's limited by ambient temperature and needs a high amount of electrical amperage to do so, requiring at least 50amps at 240v. All Heat Pumps thrive in hot and humid environments and become less and less efficient as the ambient temperature gets colder. The majority of pool Heat Pumps CANNOT run when ambient temps are below 50 degrees Fahrenheit. In addition, their heat output is often 1/2 to 1/4 the output of a gas pool heater, ranging from 100,000 to 140,000 BTUs max- which means it may need 48 hours or more of run time to initially heat your pool to your desired temperature. All Electric Heat Pumps offered by Heat My Pool! Atlanta come standard with Titanium Heat Exchangers, include a 3-5 year Parts Warranty, and an additional 10+ year Exchanger & Compressor Warranty. Giving you reliability far greater than any Gas pool heater could dream of! An Electric Heat Pump shines when it's tasked with maintaining temperatures over long periods; Allowing you to extend your swimming season, while at the same time always keeping your pool ready and at your desired temp at a fraction of the cost when compared to natural gas!
